The V V Inn series, from the USA Today & New York Times Bestselling Author, C.J. Ellisson
In the Alaskan darkness, it's not just the cold that bites.
Meet Vivian. She's a 580-year-old vampire who exudes sensuality, has a talent for drama, and is passionate about two things her human husband, Rafe, and their resort for the undead. Her ability to project physical illusions has created the perfect vacation spot--a dark, isolated Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true.
Vivian knows the best performance requires perfect timing, but the powerful vamp is put to the test when she discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. Always cool-headed, Rafe hides the body, convinced he and Vivian can find the culprit without disturbing their guests.
Juggling the increasingly outrageous demands of their customers while tracking a killer isn't easy. Will their poking and prodding give them the answers they need, or will it uncover secrets Vivian would kill to protect?
Publisher's Note This story is told in first person, from Vivian's point of view, and is written in present tense, as are all of the books. The style brings an immediacy to the story and makes you feel like you're living it as the action unfolds.
**If you're new to the series, please consider trying Death's Servant, before purchasing any of the books. It's a prequel adventure and is a great way to see if you like the writing style and storyline. Vampire Vacation Paranormal Mystery Suspense The V V Inn Book 1 edition by CJ Ellisson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
A paranormal master piece. This book has it all. Vampires, werewolves, supernatural elements (who wouldn't want to travel as a mist), mind blowing sexuality, action pact, and mystery to boot. The VV Inn in Alaska caters to vampires. It is a 5 star vacation stop for them, their mates, and their companions. Vivian's vampire abilities enable her to read others, know their hearts desires, and their deepest dark fantasies allowing her to provide the best experience for each of her guests. Wide range on intense characters, hiding agendas, and a killer on the lose makes this story a page turner from start to finish. An excellent read that I recommend to all.
This is the second book I have read by this author and it was really good! I am hooked. This is the first book of the series and can be read as a standalone. She has well developed characters. A good story line that has romance, suspense, humor, and action. Once it grabs you, it doesn't let go. Vivian and Rafe (her mate) own and operate an inn for vampires located in the arctic circle where it is only twilight some of the day and full dark the rest of the time. A vampire heaven. Vivian is a master vampire that "helps" her guests with their sexual fantasy among other things. Someone or something has killed on a person on her property and left the body in one of the rooms, she and Rafe have to find out who the murderer is before it kills again. With the help of her employees (both human and supernatural) and her guests, they track down the killer but not before it does more harm.
If you have not checked out C.J. Ellisson before, I strongly recommend you do. I can't wait to read the next one of this series!
I'll start by saying I really enjoyed this book. I have never been a huge vampire/werewolf buff. I tend to enjoy them sparingly, but this was really fun to read. I love Ellisson's take on vampires and werewolves, the paranormal in general. They are common concepts that she uses but enhances with other details, for example not all vampires can just fly. That's a basic one but others really make the story and enhance the characters a lot, so I won't go into the others. I think, by far, this is the biggest reason why I really enjoyed the book beyond just a good storyline.
As mentioned, I do like the storyline. The whole set up alone is intriguing the vampire vacation inn. Who would have thought that vampires needed a vacation? Never dawned on me before now, but I like it!
I think the main characters have a lot of depth. You may not know their whole history, but Ellisson provides enough details to bring the characters to life.
This isn't an erotica (I know changes have been made in recent releases so keep that in mind compared to older ones), but it IS sexy. Personally, I would have been a-okay with even more steamy scenes and more detail but I also enjoy a well written erotica too. ;-) There are some sexy scenes, but they aren't overwhelming. And the sexiness is important. This inn is successful for a reason. Many of the sexy scenes play an important role in the story itself, and they are not crude or harsh.
I think my biggest beef is the editing errors. As a later edition, I expected very few to none. They weren't everywhere, but some certainly stood out. I dint generally include this in my star rating, but I know it can be frustrating to some when reading so I feel like a heads up to prevent a bad rating is always good.
I absolutely loved this book and quickly falling in love with the series. I did received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, but I had already purchased the full series after reading Death's Servant because I couldn't wait for the reviewer copy.
I don't usually read adult urban fantasy, mostly because erotic fiction isn't usually my kind of reading. I prefer dystopian, science fiction and fantasy novels with supernatural beings or other unique characters. This series has vampires and werewolves which is why it caught my interest. The main character is a power old vampire named Vivian and the story mostly focuses around her and her human husband. The story is told in the first person present tense which gives a unique perspective on Vivian's thoughts and experiences. The book also introduces other vampires, humans and werewolves throughout the story, many I'm assuming will be in upcoming books.
The author spends enough time developing each character that is introduced into the story. This is done mostly through Vivian's interactions with the characters. I like this approach because Vivian tries to act like she only cares about protecting herself and her husband, but in reality she will protect anyone in her life even someone she barely knows. I hope many of the characters return in future books.
I never provide spoilers in my reviews because that does a disservice to the story and future readers. This book may not be for everyone because of the erotica which may not be suited for younger readers. I don't find it to be too much erotica but I'm new to reading this genre of books so my perspective is limited. I can say that C.J. Ellisson is wonderful storyteller and I would be surprised to hear that someone didn't enjoy this book. I found the book to be light and fun but also provided some suspense and excitement at just the right moments.
